We have been sampling some new coffees this week. We have found two keepers: a well structured Colombian microlot and Ethiopia Adado Sulula that smells and tastes like fresh strawberries. Now serving both, and this afternoon I’ll be picking up more of each so tomorrow would be a good time to come buy a jar of beans.

Everyone has been loving the dry processed Ethiopia konga. Tuesday we will have a batch of cold brew made with this awesome coffee. Chocolate covered blueberries on ice. We also have some honey from Hawaii for the gilded cappuccinos. Our very own creation, this drink has been a bigger hit that the cubano. See you in the morning.

Two things: first, I’m roasting plenty of the dry processed ethiopia yirga buufata konga tonight so it will be available tomorrow morning. Second, I’d like to get these cans into the hands of all our regular customers. The cans have a one-way valve that allows the co2 released by our freshly roasted coffee to push out the o2, keeping the coffee super fresh. Once you buy one of these babies you can bring it in any time and I’ll fill it with coffee right out of the roaster.

COMING SOON!!! To all customers who need a real treat to get through the day, we will soon be serving Affogatos! Some of you may be familiar with my acute passion for ice cream, or you may not…suffice to say i couldnt be more excited just imaging a gorgeous shot of syrupy PEEL SESSIONS coarsing its way over a generous mound of Humphry Slocomb’s SECRET BREAKFAST ice cream. I have a feeling this is going to be a neighborhood favorite. Hit me with any suggestions for the number one non dairy ice cream bc i want to look out for my lactose intolerant folks too! Everyone deserves to get in on the affogato joy.

John and I roasted through some samples this week and even served a few cups of a dry processed Ethiopian with a vivid blueberry character and hints of chocolate. We are just a couple weeks away from really launching with our coffee, but in the meantime feel free to ask me what I have handy if you’d like to taste our progress. I’ll be dialing in a S.O. Guatemalan espresso Monday morning that we roasted today. We are still finding our way, but already we have had some really exciting results. Can’t wait to share them with all of you who have showed so much interest and support in what we are trying to do. Thanks for that and have a great weekend.

For anyone who has been anticipating this, we have found a roaster! It won’t be more than a couple weeks before we are working with our own beans. Retail bags will be available at the shop and we will offer single origins by the cup and feature one of them as an espresso daily. During this transition we will most likely hang on to the peel Sessions blend from De La Paz for a short time until we are confident we have an espresso blend that people are crazy about. I couldn’t be more excited about this! We will literally be roasting a pound per roast cycle so we will be putting a lot of time and love into these coffees, but I know it will be worth it to get started this way. John already roasted his first pound of Latin American coffee and considering it wasn’t a coffee we had handpicked and it was literally his first time touching a roaster armed only with our shared philosophy of “exposure roasting”, I’d say the fact that I drank three cups speaks to the potential of where this is going. Stand by for further updates( if you are one of our twenty dedicated fans lol) g’night.

If you happen to like great coffee, music, literature, or just want to drop in to the neighborhood shop where you can catch some edgy conversation between awesome people from all walks of life that have only being cool in common, then this cafe is your local hole in the wall.

What is showplace caffe? I’d like to paint a picture of what we are and one of what we aren’t.

What we are: two designers are walking down the street having a discussion about architectural elements that can reduce carbon emissions in urban development. They need a pick me up. They drop in and order an espresso and a cappuccino. Lingering over the warm rich beverages, they find just a shade of inspiration and invigoration. One asks “who is this on the stereo?” I reply “thee oh sees man”. They leave and continue to live their lives. Perfecto

What we aren’t: six nonplussed people who fancy themselves titans of industry but miraculously possess no office at which to confer at this moment walk in, start rearranging the furniture and mumbling about how they had no idea how small this place was, and when at last they are settled in and blocking every walkway they begin their meeting. “Oh pardon me” I say. ” It pains me to interrupt, but might I sell you anything today?” My words produce a unified effect of bewilderment on all of their faces and they each wait for the other to solve this mystery. Linda is thinking “maybe if Ted gets a coffee this guy will leave us all alone”. After a few moments they begin asking after herbal tea, one of them wants a specific detoxify blend, another is wondering about decaf options and in how many pieces can I split a shot of espresso…now the only thing I am wondering Is why on earth these people have descended to the southern edge of SoMa, crossed a dangerous intersection three ways, and sought out our almost hidden shop which is known for only ONE THING! A good cup of coffee…when as it turns out a slamming cup of joe couldn’t be further from their minds if they were devout Mormon abstainers with a case of ibs to boot.

This is dedicated to the 90 percent of people I see every day who get it. I love you guys and you literally keep us in the biz.
